In 2021, when a farmer raised concerns about getting less rice through the public distribution system, Katti’s response caused a surprise. He said, “It might be better to die. That’s why we’ve stopped giving. Please don’t bother me.”
Unfortunately, on 06 September 2022, Umesh Katti had a serious heart attack and collapsed at his home in Bangalore’s Dollar’s Colony. He was taken to M S Ramaiah Hospital, but sadly, he couldn’t recover. His last rites were performed respectfully in his hometown, Bellad Bagewadi.
